Holidays is just around the corner. Most of us are too busy preparing for Christmas parties or buying gifts for our loved ones. With all the holiday rush, it’s too easy to forget about our skin, and we kid you not, winter is actually taking a toll on our skin. Winter is when our skin is at its driest state! Holiday season can also be stressful for some of us and this causes skin irritation and even breakouts!!

Well, you don’t have to be the Ice Queen to bring your winter skin back to life. All you need to do is stock up these essential oils and follow our tips on how to use them to keep your skin glowing this winter season.

How Does Winter Dry Our Skin?

Dry skin is common when the weather is too cold or during the winter months. This is because when it is cold, the humidity level drops and the air become dry. This makes the water or moisture in your skin evaporate more quickly. And when there is no moisture in your skin, it will become dry and look flaky.

Dry skin may seem like a simple problem, but when not prevented or treated, dry skin causes a lot of health problems like itchiness and irritation, rough and cracking skin, eczema, and bacterial infection.

Essential Oils that Prevent and Treat Winter Skin Problems

Cedarwood Essential Oil

Cedarwood is known for its skin moisturizing and antibacterial properties. It makes the skin feel soft and is a perfect moisturizer for acne prone skin.
To use cedarwood essential oil, dilute a few drops to your favorite carrier oil and apply to your skin before going out. (Check our HoPE Dilution Guide to know more about diluting essential oils).

Geranium Essential Oil

Geranium oil was used in Ancient Egypt for skin care. It is great for reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. It also fights infection and promotes skin healing. Geranium oil is gentle on the skin so it is safe to use in irritated skin.

Geranium oil is best used with rosehip seed oil. Dilute a few drops of geranium oil to rosehip seed oil and use as moisturizer either in the morning or night.

Lavender Essential Oil

Lavender oil is a go-to oil when you have dry and sensitive skin. It soothes and disinfects your skin making it ideal for acne-prone skin.

Lavender oil can boost the performance of your skin care product. To incorporate lavender oil in your daily skin care routine, simply add a few drops to your skin care product or carrier oil.

Sweet Orange Oil

Orange oil or sweet orange oil, when added to your face cream or carrier oil, helps improve your complexion and reduce wrinkles. The vitamin C in orange oil nourishes dull skin so you will have glowing skin!

Rosehip Seed Oil

Rosehip seed oil is rich in essential fatty acids, vitamins A, C and E and trans-retinoic acid. This means that it is great for rehydrating your skin! To stop your skin from drying out this winter, mist some rosewater on your face, then apply a few drops of rosehip oil. Rosehip oil is also perfect for winter-dry skin. This is safe on babies’ skin too.

Argan Oil

Argan oil is well-known for nourishing and repairing dry and damaged hair. What most of us don’t know is that argan oil is great on the skin too! Argan oil is rich in vitamin E, fatty acids, and antioxidants that help repair damaged skin membranes. It is not greasy and absorbs easily in the skin making it ideal for all skin types!

You can use these oils individually, added to your cream, or for best results, use them to make your own organic beauty serum.
There you have it! These essential oils will deeply nourish your skin during the winter and all year round. If you have questions about any of our oils, feel free to drop us a line at hope@houseofpureessence.com.
